Miles Halter is tired of his predictable and friendless life, so he decides to attend Culver Creek boarding school in Alabama for his junior year of high school. He tells his parents that he's going to seek a Great Perhaps, that there's something more for him. 

He meets some crazy new friends; "The Colonel (real name Chip Martin), insane, short fellow thats good with words, but not with relationships. "Takumi", not so smart, but easy on the eyes, and of course the astonishing "Alaska".

The four become great friends, until...

One night Alaska disappears, nobody knows why (until the end, don't want to spoil it) but Pudge (Miles's nickname given to him by "The Colonel") "The Colonel" and Takumi are determined to find her.

Unlocking mysteries along the way, until they finally hear the unspeakable truth and realize she's never coming back.
